Leadership Networks

The Springboard Schools Leadership Networks provide
ongoing professional
development for district leaders, principals, and teacher-leaders throughout the school year. Participants attend the network meetings as district teams and as part of a greater professional learning community focused on achievement, equity, and inquiry.

Leadership Network sessions draw from Springboard Schools’ ongoing research into high-performing, high-poverty schools and districts that none the less exceed expectations in student achievement. The lessons earned from Springboard Schools’ ten-plus years of research and practice illuminate the work of the Leadership Networks’ participants. Your district and schools will learn to use the Cycle of Inquiry and other proven techniques to improve learning for all of your students, regardless of ethnicity, English-language ability, or social status.

What is a Leadership Network?

A Leadership Network is a professional learning community of education leaders at all levels. The Network studies the research findings regarding the best practices in schools and district systems that support improved student achievement and narrowing of the achievement gap. those findings drive new practices, tools, and resources. The teams meet five times during the school year to learn and work together to improve practices in their districts and schools.

Plans for the 2007-08 Leadership Networks include:

  • Six or eight days of professional development during the 2007-08 school year focused on applying research-based practices to improve teaching and learning.
  • Two orientation sessions for new network members that introduce our approach to practical application of research findings and Springboard Schools’s Cycle of Inquiry, our data-informed continuous improvement process.
  • Receive the latest information from the California Best Practices Study findings and to practice using tools and protocols proven at the high-performing of elementary, middle, and high schools in the study.
  • The opportunity at each network meeting to work with district leaders, principals, and teacher-leaders from your district to strategize how to implement best practices in your setting.
  • A variety of breakout sessions, some focused on high-leverage strategies, some focused on specific roles, and others focused on the needs of elementary or secondary, but always focused on building your capacity as an education leader.
  • Practical tools and resources are provided at every meeting, so you leave equipped to move from theory to action.

What you will take home from the Leadership Network

  • Understanding of the best practices that successful schools use to improve
  • Specific techniques and tools using research-based practices to address your school’s challenges
  • Protocols and resources to help you build professional learning communities between and among teachers, principals and district office staff
  • Implementation plans for achieving and sustaining specific, strategically selected changes in practice to improve student achievement and accelerate the learning of the lowest performing students.
  • Tools and resources available nowhere else

Who should attend the Leadership Network?

The leadership network is open to teams of district, principal, and teacher-leaders. Participants attend the network meetings as district teams and are part of a wider professional learning community. We recommend that these teams of 5 to 7 key leaders include:

  • Assistant Superintendents
  • District Curriculum Administrators
  • District Instruction Administrators
  • District Staff Development Administrators
